Take your Christmas gifts to the next level with our new schedule of exciting craft workshops at Metquarter. Dot Art and GPO have teamed up to bring classes that’ll teach interesting and fun skills such as tote bag printing, caricature drawing, handmade garland making and Christmas card printing 🎨.
Whether you’re looking to make an interesting gift for a loved one or you just fancy a day out to make some handmade crafts, we’re excited to welcome you to Metquarter for some festive crafting fun.

Caricature Yourself!
Saturday 27th November – 10:30am – 12:30pm
Explore the world of caricaturing with financial times Illustrator, Phil Disley.
This beginners adult workshop will introduce you to the techniques and methods of caricaturing, creating your own wonderful and comedic self portraits or of those in your party.
An adult class aimed at all abilities from beginners to those with some experience. Through this session, you will learn how to structure and develop character, denote body language and accentuate features, as well as many other useful tricks and tips. Your tutor will guide you on the drawing and observation techniques to turn your face into witty and remarkable work.
All materials are provided but attendees are welcome to bring their own materials and equipment that they wish. There are a maximum of 20 places available on the course, so early booking is essential. Please call 0345 017 6660 to pay without additional fees.

Christmas Tree Garlands
Saturday 4th December – 10:30am – 12:30pm
A fun session making pretty and effective garlands for your Christmas tree or to use as a festive decoration to hang on the wall. Aimed at beginners, this 2 -hour workshop will show students how to create their own simplistic and striking Christmas Tree Garlands to take home and deck the halls in time for the Christmas season.
Using paper, card and glue we’ll do some clever cutting and folding and make geometric mini trees or stars, then string them onto twine for a charming and rustic addition to your tree.
You’ll have a choice of colours and papers to make your garland strands your own, fun and bright, or in ombre shades for a simple elegance.
Students will learn the wonders of paper craft in this family friendly workshop, make your own small garland or team up on a large one with your family or group. The class is suitable for ages 12+.
Artist tutor Olga is on hand to offer design tips and advice on how best to approach your design.

Lino Cut Christmas Cards
Saturday 11th December – 10:30am – 13:30pm
Explore the skill of lino cutting and create your own handmade Christmas cards with artist and experienced teacher Catherine Carmyllie.
This beginners adult workshop is suitable for ages 14+ and will introduce you to the materials and tools of lino cutting before moving onto creating, cutting and printing your own design. No previous experience is required, you will be inspired by lots of examples and ideas.
Lino cut and print is a rewarding and fairly easy skill to learn. Students will see examples & will watch a demonstration how to use a basic lino cutting tool with lino base. Artist tutor Catherine will be on hand to offer design templates and advice on how best to approach your design.
Students can then choose from block print ink colours and print onto a set of 10 blank cards. All materials are provided but attendees are welcome to bring their own materials and equipment if they wish to experiment.

Tote Bag Printing
Saturday 18th December – 10:30am – 12:30pm
A chance to create handprinted tote bags using wood block print techniques with artist and experienced teacher Catherine Carmyllie.
This class is suitable for those aged 14 + and is aimed at all abilities from total beginner through to those with some experience. Students will see examples and watch a demonstration on how to use textile art techniques to decorate a cotton tote bag, such as hand paint, masking stickers, stencils and printing. Following this, there is a chance to choose a hand carved wood block and stamp a pattern onto their bag/ fabric base.
Students have something to take away and learn a new skill and artist Catherine will be on hand to offer design tips and advice on how best to approach your design.
All materials are provided but attendees are welcome to bring their own materials and equipment that they wish to experiment with if they prefer (pillowcases, canvas tote bags, napkins, larger papers, wood base, etc).
There are a maximum of 12 places available on the course, so early booking is essential.
